Well, I left my job as a heavy duty parts outside sales rep, because they wanted to take my salary and replace it with 100 % commission, the bottom had dropped out of the business anyway, so I hear these commercials, " thousands of truck drivers will be needed in the next several years," so I think why not .. I attended drivers training at ICC in East Peoria ,IL. graduated, got my CDL and my first job, I lasted about a month, I did accidently side swipe a pole , not much damage, but never got paid after a month...then they had the nerve to send me a W2 on a check I never recieved, my nest job was for Curry Ice and Coal... another mistake,,,, saftey issues and poor working conditions , so after being stranded one night for over 6 hours only to be told no one could come and get me, *(one hour from shop) I quit.. Now I work for a farmer making 25% , no benefits, and responsible for oil changes and lubing on my own time... WHERE DID THE NEED FOR DRIVERS GO ?? Now I am being told that the call was for OTR trucking... which I am not interested in, I love to drive, but I want to make a living too.... I would not mind a overnight or two a week, but I like weekends off and hometime to me is more valuable than money. Pretty much screwed I know,,,
I got my hazmat and tanker endorsements , being told that it would help me get a better paying job... that was BS too... So here I sit... working for a farmer, with no bennies, percentage, with little steady work.. I want to get out of Ag hauling.. and into more on road is there anyhope for me ??
