Made it home from my last border run. Couldnt be stopped by Dolly or Eduardo. Beginning to understand the rush "Storm Chasers" get. It really is a rush being in those storms. I officially have been in 6 hurricanes, 3 tropical storms, 1 dust storm, and numerous ice sorms and white out blizzards. Call me "shit nuts" but....I like it

The teacher gave her fifth grade class an assignment:
Have your parents tell you a story with a moral at the end.
The next day the kids came back and one by one began to tell their stories.
"Johnny, do you have a story to share?"
"Yes ma'am. My daddy told a story about my Aunt Carol. She was a pilot in Desert Storm and her plane got hit. She had to bail out over enemy territory and all she had was a small flask of whiskey, a pistol and a survival knife. She drank the whiskey on the way down so it wouldn't break and then her parachute landed right in the middle of twenty enemy troops.
She shot fifteen of them with the gun until she ran out of bullets, killed four more with the knife, till the blade broke, and then she killed the last Iraqi with her bare hands."
"Good Heavens" said the horrified teacher. "What kind of moral did your daddy tell you from this horrible story?"
"Stay the fuck away from Aunt Carol when she's drinking."
I have come to the conclusion, that the worst part about being OTR is having to do your laundry at the truck stops. I'm layed over in Baytown Tx for the weekend, bored out of my mind so I decided to go ahead and do my laundry. It never fails, there's always that one guy looking for a ride and got some lame ass excuse as to why. Then theres the guy that wants to tell you whats wrong with this country. Theres the one that feels he has to tell you why his wife left him, he spent time in prison, and why he is the number one driver for his company. My question to all of them is, "Since you seem to have as much time on your hands as I do. How bathing before aproaching me next time?" It's not like I can just go back out to the truck, my clothes are in the machines. "Why? Why? Why didn't I just go to Wal-Mart and buy new clothes?" I'm just say'n is all.... Yall be careful out there...

PTSD Post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) : An axiety disorder that results from exposure to an event or events so psychically disturbing, that the after effects continue months even years afterwards. Most people hear those four words, usually the first thoughts that come to their heads is, "Crazy Vietnam Vet". I know because it was my first thought. It's an unfortunate reality. When you're a victim of PTSD, you wish there was a switch to turn off all the shit in your head. Your life becomes a blend of chaos and inertia. It's not a world created in your head to escape reality. It's the reality of whats in your head. You're always on the brink of a meltdown, snapping, wigging out, or many other of the terms people use when they witness it firsthand. You cant tolerate large crowds, and when your just out with friends and family, you get random thoughts of violence towards people who are perfect strangers to you. A certain amount of disregard for life. Yours and others. There are things in your head you can't talk to anyone about. There's the pharmacutical approach. It helps some symptoms but intensifies others. The psychological therapy only goes so far. It's a gamble either way. Nightmares, insomnia, heightened alertness, extreme mood swings in an instant, persistant recollections, and self imposed isolations. There's alienating those close to you because you're afraid of them seeing you in your worst moments, or they're afraid of you because they have seen you at your worst moment. Then there's the memory banks that have been deleted or blocked. People have no idea how right they are when they say, "You've changed." All day long, day in, day out, your mind goes through 5 cycles : defend, reinforce, attack, withdraw, delay. You find yourself positioning so you can anticipate a possible threat at any given moment in your daily routine. If the government would recognize this as a true disability and quit sugar coating it with other terms that seem easier to swallow. Our vets should be given the same awards and attention as those with physical wounds, maybe, just maybe there would be more persistancy in getting better help. Your mind is just like any other apendage. It's there one day and when you lose even part of it. Your everyday functioning has to altered and becomes a challenge. So please help me raise the awarness by visiting http://www.ncptsd.va.gov/ncmain/index.jsp

For those of you members of thetruckersreport.com you can find this one posted in the Truckers Strike Forum titled "Peeing in the Ocean to Raise the Tide" See yall in the funny papers! This proposed strike will be like pissing in the ocean to raise the tide. Mainly do to the lack of braodcasting and organization. I am a third generation truck driver, and lived through the union strikes and independent strikes of the 70's & 80's, deregulation, HOS changes, border openings and everything else this industry has endured. This "strike" talk is driven by fuel prices, mainly from owner operators. Outside of us drivers, who is backing us up? The general public doesn't have a clue to a proposed strike. Has it occured to anyone that it will only hurt the industry and possibly the American economy. You're protesting the greed of mostly foriegn based companies that this strike will have no effect on their economies. You have to get the American People involved, not just a small percentage of the trucking industry. In order to get the People involved is broadcasting. Billboard signs, banners on trucks, public announcement, or even TV commercials letting the people know that this will effect their cost of living tremendously, now and in the future if something is not done. These days everyone watches CNN, Fox News, & CNNBC. This "strike" isn't even a blip on their radar. What good is it without the American People having knowledge of whats going on. The People knew more about the UPS strike for pay and benifits than they do about an economy impacting situation. Draw attention to the cause, not the reaction. And we have to do it in a way that won't hurt the People of this country. I keep hearing, "It's time for a strike..." or "Wake up drivers! Grow a backbone and stop taking it in the rear..." "With us or against us?" This sounds more like civil unrest inside the industry. From the drivers I've talked to, and say they are participating say they are going to "park their truck and go fishing..." or hunting or whatever. Thats not participating. Thats hiding from a problem. So don't call me a coward because I wont support something that I've been getting vague information about through the cb grapevine, from drivers who have no solid knowledge of the issue at hand. For over 10 consecutive years, the oil companies have had record profit years. They have used up every excuse in the book for reasons of price gouging, unseasonably cold winters, hurricanes, global warming (you can thank Al Gore for that one), El Nino, stricter emissions laws, problems in the Middle East, you name it. If it has a major impact on regions or societies, they have used it as an excuse for raising the cost of fuel.
I got rid of my truck in 2000 when fuel went up over $2 a gallon. (Clinton administraion so stop blaming the President) . I went back to being a company driver and going to school at night. Eventually landed an office position for 11 months before getting back in the truck. I learned the hard way that I wouldnt have it any other way. You think the independants are effected, you oughta see the effect it has had on the revenue of the bigger companies. But before any "truckers strike" has an effect, the trucking companies have to unite and start making some noise. Thats when OOIDA, ATA, Teamsters, and others will get involved. As it stands they can't support this strike due to anti-trust laws. I know the government has helped every transportation industry except for trucking. That's because we have been able to police our stuff "in house" all these years. But for the airlines, rails, and steamship industries to get help, it took unity of the companies, not the employees or independents. If you want to win your war, not your battles, you have to recruit the guys with the big guns. Outside of that, it just looks like a revolt on the border of desperation.
