Going To Gemini Traffic Sales
Posted On 06/18/2008 15:56:31

Got a call this morning from Gemini Traffic Sales the recruiter told me I studied hard as I passed my drug test. Asked me to come in and get my physical done, went in and passed the physical, filled out all the  paper work and I start tomorrow. I will be heading out for Dallas to pickup a truck for the local terminal to be used locally. They are trying to determine how to get me there either by hitching a ride with another driver or by taking the bus. When I return I will be assigned my own truck.  So looks like I being rolling in a Red truck instead of the White truck I have been driving.

In Training
Posted On 06/17/2008 19:06:47

Well, its has been 3 digits the past few days here and our A/C cut out last Friday. Not sure when it will be fixed. I joked with my wife last night that I guess I am now in training. Of course she did not understand what I meant by this statement. I explained with all the new company rules and state laws about idling I am in training to sleep without A/C.  Her reply was "we never had A/C  only 2 small fans when I drove" (She and her 1st husband where O/O's  back In the early 80's. They drove late 60's - early 70's petes) so no sympathy on her part.

One Step Closer
Posted On 06/16/2008 17:05:07

Got a call this morning from the recruiter he wanted me to come in for a drug test. Made sure I was well full of liquids drank alot of water between here and Adelanto LOL. Should hear from him Wednesday if I pass the drug test since I don't do drugs I should pass it. Orientation is half a day will need to do DOT physical and of course the road test. They have 4 trucks available right now 2 culumbias, 1 volvo and 1 pete. I could be back on the road this weekend. Should be interesting going from 15,000 + drivers to around 300 drivers.

It been 2 weeks looking
Posted On 06/11/2008 19:56:22

Well, it has been 2 weeks since Swift turned down my re-hire (5/28 blog). I have applied on-line with 9 companies both large and small, local and long haul also called a couple directly. Have already heard from 3 and have been turned down because of the accident last October.

I saw one of the companies had an add in the paper today so I gave them a call. Spoke with the recruiter who is also the safety manager. After he looked at my internet application and I told him of my accident record he asked me to come in to fill out a full application (they have a local terminal).

I arrived at the terminal filled out the application he took a look at it and said it looks good and he was going to submit it for the back ground check and he wanted me to call him back after 2:00 tomorrow. As for my accident record they allow 2 preventable  and 2 tickets within 3 years. So unless there is something I am not aware of on my record and they don't get some better qualify drivers (they only need 4 ) I can start as soon as next week. So with any luck I will go from a large company to one with only 300 - 400 drivers, from a white truck to a red truck.

US Senate will be debating on Liberman-Warner S.2191
Posted On 05/30/2008 20:04:55

With the price of fuel running at record highs next week the US Senate will be debating on a bill know as the Liberman-Warner Climate Security Act of 2007 S.2191

According to an article in The Hill By Jim Snyder the Lieberman-Warner bill could raise gas prices about 50 cents to the price of a gallon of gasoline, according to a study. The past few months we have heard Lawmakers spring debating ways to lower prices at the pump. But they will soon find themselves discussing a measure that could push fuel costs even higher.

A study paid for by a group that represents oil refiners found that the global warming bill, co-authored by Sens. Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.) and John Warner (R-Va.), would raise pump prices by around 48 cents (in 2007 currency) by 2030. It also found that the bill would increase gas prices by as much as 13 cents over the next four years."

Prices for retail gasoline would increase between 13 and 50 percent by 2014 according to a study commissioned by the National Association of Manufactures. Residential electricity prices would increase 13 - 14 percent; natural gas would increase 18 - 21 percent. The study, "Analysis of the Lieberman-Warner Climate Security Act (S.2191) using the National Energy Modeling System (NEMS/ACCF/NAM)," also projects that the U.S. economy will suffer employment losses of over 800,000 jobs by 2014 and between 1.2 and over 1.8 million more lost jobs in 2020.

The Lieberman-Warner bill would cripple the future economic health of the United States according the Heritage Foundation's Center for Data Analysis projects that. GDP losses are estimated to be between $45.7 billion and nearly $170 billion in 2015 (2000 dollars) - totaling as much as $4.8 trillion of lost GDP by 2030. Also, Heritage analysts estimate annual employment drops could be as high as 901,000 as early as 2016 and will exceed 500,000 per year before 2030. By 2030, skyrocketing energy prices will mean the average household will spend an extra $608 for heating oil, $647 for electricity and $303 for natural gas per year from projected 2012 levels.

A poll, conducted by the National Center for Public Policy Research, found 65% of Americans reject spending even a penny more for gasoline to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Those rejecting raising gas
prices to combat global warming has increased by 17 percentage points to 35%  in just over two months. The National Center conducted a similar survey in late February. An additional 13% oppose spending more than 5% more for gasoline to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Drill in the 48 states, build refineries, build nuclear facilities, and develop new technology.

americansolutions.com/drillnow is an online petition to drill on American soil.

Drill in ANWR, With anywhere from 5.7 billion to 16 billion barrels of oil, the coastal plain may hold the largest undeveloped onshore reserves in North America.

Drill off the coast of America, a 2006 Department of Interior study that says 8.5 billion barrels of oil and 29.3 trillion cubic feet of natural gas exist on the Outer Continental Shelf.

Drill in the Rockies, A study by the Rand Corporation estimates the sedimentary rock in the corner where Utah borders Colorado and Wyoming holds about 800 billion barrels. That's three times the size of Saudi Arabia's oil reserves

Heard from Swift
Posted On 05/28/2008 18:50:14

I know a few of you have been wondering what is happening with my return to Swift. The short of it is it's not. Spoke with recruiter this afternoon and was notified that I will be rehireable in October. It seems since the accident I had in October (see blog 4/9) prevents me from being re-hired until then. I told him then I guess I will not be coming back to Swift. So I will be sending apps to as many companies that I can. Hopefully I will get an offer soon, will keep everyone notified.

Doctor's OK
Posted On 05/21/2008 18:07:58

Well saw the doctor this morning hoping he would release me back to work. The good news is I have been released from the doctor, I am able to go back to driving. Now all I have to do is fax the release to Safety at Swifts Memphis Terminal, and contact recruiting at Swifts Fonatana Terminal to get reinstated.  Hoping to get back OTR by Monday. However neither people I need to speak to have called me back. I will give them a couple of days to call back if not then I guess I will start looking for other companies to drive for. Though I am partial to Swift Trans, so we will see what happens, I will keep all informed.

It's Official
Posted On 05/13/2008 12:37:48

Well, the day has come that I knew was coming just a month later the expected. When I went on Medical Leave in December I was notified by Swift that the Medical leave would be for 1 month only. That if I was not back in 30 days I would be placed on general Leave of Absent (LOA) for 90 days. After 90 days I would be terminated from the company. They kept me an extra 30 days, I was terminated last Friday, 150 days since my accident, 14 days before I see my doctor to convince him I am ready to go back to work. I jokingly asked HR and my fleet manager they couldn't wait another couple of weeks. I also notified my FM that I wont be returning to his fleet (local Rite Aid) as I no longer have a car to get to the DC (85 miles away now that I moved), but will be going back OTR, he is sending the forms I will need to be rehired (medical release from the doctor). So with all hope in 3 to 4 weeks I will be back to rolling along the long black stretch called the Interstate.

Feeling The Move.
Posted On 04/24/2008 16:29:34

I'm Back, the move still going on. A bit rough for me guess I was not as recovered as I thought. Luckly my son and his best friend came up from LA to help. They did most of the work.I feel pretty much like I did after the accident. Moved from a 3000+ sq' tract house to a 1300 sq' rural home on 5 acres. Will be putting a lot into storage.

As for the return to work not happening as soon as I was hoping. Saw the doctor yesterday, he still wants to do surgery on my left knee we will make the dission end of May. So the earlist I will return June 1st, 2 weeks later then hoped.
