Griping about...

I'd really love to know what makes a male owner think he's God? For heaven's sake, we're in the 21st century now, but alas, there are still some die-hard chauvinists...

I had a really great job driving for this guy who wanted me to run coast to coast. NC to CA and back again every week. Things were going great until my back twinged on me and I was out for about 3 or 4 days. While I'm out, he hires some flunky, who happens to be another guy, and replaces me. He waits until I'm ready to get back to work and then tells me that he's "worried about my back". The truth comes out when, after he fires me, I let it slip that I want to get into heavy-haul and flatbedding. He exclaims "...but you're a woman. You can't do that!"

It was almost as if I had stepped on some unseen boundary about being a woman and getting into heavy-haul. His attitude was "How dare you broach that boundary!"

I'm beginning to wonder if I made the right decision about getting my CDL 2 years ago!

I have to be better, smarter, faster, stronger, etc than a man all because I got boobs??? How absurd! And what a loss such an attitude can cause!

He has cost me and my *male* co-driver over $5000 since he fired me and then my co-driver.

I asked him about my record. He said that I had 0 cargo claims. What a relief! I still don't have *any* tickets or accidents on my record. But I have kept on bumping into this male-ego, unseen-boundary thing repeatedly. Is this because some men are still thinking like it was the 1950's?

Anyway, you said something about griping. Well, I hope that I've helped to get things off to a rousing start.

Welcome to our world! I srarted as a solo driver pulling swinging beef in 1985 and the attitude of owners was the same then. From what I can see it hasn't improved a *&^# bit since. When my partner was out of commission for a month this year when I asked our present employer if I had a solo position if worse came to worse his answer was a long pause and an "I Guess".  I have 1+1/2 million safe miles and no tickets and I get "I Guess"? If I was a man they'd be slobbering all over themselves wouldn't they?

male owner.

well ladies, if I were a really smart trucker, (What an oxymoron, I wouldn't be trucking) I'd say something really profound, and leave you both wondering how he came up with that? but I'm not, cuz I'm not that smart. I'll just say, don't give up, if they aint wanting a woman to work for them, ***k em, their loss, they are the one with the problem, don't let them give that problem to you. Keep on keeping on, and never give up!!!
