I'd really love to know what makes a male owner think he's God? For heaven's sake, we're in the 21st century now, but alas, there are still some die-hard chauvinists...
I had a really great job driving for this guy who wanted me to run coast to coast. NC to CA and back again every week. Things were going great until my back twinged on me and I was out for about 3 or 4 days. While I'm out, he hires some flunky, who happens to be another guy, and replaces me. He waits until I'm ready to get back to work and then tells me that he's "worried about my back". The truth comes out when, after he fires me, I let it slip that I want to get into heavy-haul and flatbedding. He exclaims "...but you're a woman. You can't do that!"
It was almost as if I had stepped on some unseen boundary about being a woman and getting into heavy-haul. His attitude was "How dare you broach that boundary!"
I'm beginning to wonder if I made the right decision about getting my CDL 2 years ago!
I have to be better, smarter, faster, stronger, etc than a man all because I got boobs??? How absurd! And what a loss such an attitude can cause!
He has cost me and my *male* co-driver over $5000 since he fired me and then my co-driver.
I asked him about my record. He said that I had 0 cargo claims. What a relief! I still don't have *any* tickets or accidents on my record. But I have kept on bumping into this male-ego, unseen-boundary thing repeatedly. Is this because some men are still thinking like it was the 1950's?
Anyway, you said something about griping. Well, I hope that I've helped to get things off to a rousing start.
